Negombo on the country’s western coast is a popular diving destination on account of twelve exceptional dive sites. Divers are treated to underwater landscapes ranging from pristine reefs full of fish to small rocky boulder strewn reefs. The wrecks of a WWII fighter aircraft and a 50 year old shipwreck now thriving marine colonies, are popular dive sites. The furthest dive spot the Third Reef offers clear blue water, excellent visibility and a diverse range of marine life.

Day 02

Negombo – Sigiriya

Thereafter proceed from Negombo to Sigiriya

One of the key archaeological sites in the cultural triangle, Sigiriya is a vast archaeological site dating from the 5th century. However it has been inhabited since pre historic times. The main attraction is the 80 meter granite rock with frescos of heavenly maidens and archaeological remains on top. The base of the rock is equally interesting with water and boulder gardens, a moat and old city walls.  The onsite modern museum is the best place to start.

Day 3

Sigiriya –  Dambulla – Matale – Kandy

Thereafter proceed from Sigiriya  to Dambulla

Dambulla Rock Cave temple which was built by king Walagambahu in the 1st century B.C.  and  it is  a  World  Heritage Site.  It is the most impressive  of  Sri Lanka’s cave temples.  The complex of five caves with over 2000 sq. meters of  painted walls and ceilings is  the largest area of paintings found in the world.  It contains over  150  images  of  the  Buddha  of  which the  largest is the colossal figure of the Buddha carved out of rock and spanning 14 meters.

Thereafter proceed from  Dambulla to  Matale

Visit a spice garden in Matale to see different spices for which Sri Lanka is famous for. Here, clients could see different spices and how some of these spices are grown and processed.

There after proceed from Matale  to Kandy

Located in the central hills, Kandy was the capital of the country’s last kingdom. Among the many places of historical, religious, cultural and ecological significance is the Temple of the Tooth where the Buddha’s tooth relic is enshrined, the 200-year-old Kandy Lake, remains of the 700 year old royal palace, a royal forest reserve, several pieces of 18th and 19th century colonial architecture, historic Buddhist and Hindu temples, the country’s largest botanic garden and the tea museum in the Hantane hills.

Kandy –  Tea Plantation – Nuwara Eliya

There after proceed to Nuwara Eliya via a tea plantation

At an altitude of 1,868 meters Nuwara Eliya has a subtropical highland climate. When combined with a mean annual temperature of 16 degrees C it has the best conditions to host a variety of flowering plants, vertebrates, mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, trees, shrubs, mosses and ferns making it an environment hotspot. Pidurutalagala at 2524 meters above sea level the country’s highest mountain peak looms over the town. The mountain is the catchment of some of the country’s major river systems. Nuwara Eliya is also famous for its tea plantations.

En-Route,Visit Rawana Water Falls in Ella

An amazinjg waterfall of 1080 feet higjh close to the road from Ella to Wellawaya about 06km south from Ella .The stream,a tributary of Kirinda Oya plunges with a foaming spray over a series of ledges into nthe valley close to a road bend.The watweers riswe from Wewatenna highland above the rocks.In general the rocky underground of the waterfalls in Sri Lanka consists of hard gneiss or granite,

But here the material is khondalite,a kind of lime stone which undergoes  dec ay faster.Thus there are caves near the falls.King Ravana of Ramayana legend is said to have lived in one of the caves above the waterfalls.

Proceed to Yala

Do a safari of the Yala National Park by jeep.

Covering nearly 130,000 ha along the south east coast of Sri Lanka, Yala is a strict nature reserve and a national park. Its landscape comprises of light forest, scrub and grasslands, shallow lakes and lagoons. The most visited park in the country is home to elephants, the world’s largest concentration of leopards, sloth bears, spotted deer, sambur, crocodiles, langurs and a myriad water birds among other species. The best time to visit is between February and July.

Tissamaharama  – Yala –  Galle –  Airport / Beach Hotel

Galle was once the chief port of Ceylon. It is still well known for hand-made lace. Visit the Galle Fort (spanning 90 acres) which has been originally built by the Portuguese and later extended by the Dutch in 1663. This is a World Heritage Site.
